Transport Committee publishes correspondence from P&O Ferries on sacked workers' belongings

The Chair of the Transport Committee, Huw Merriman MP, recently wrote to the Chief Executive Officer of P&O Ferries, Peter Hebblethwaite, to seek an update on the return of personal belongings to the seafarers who were sacked without notice on March 17, 2022.

The issue was raised in an evidence session last month, during which the National Secretary of the RMT Union, Darren Proctor, reported that many of the workers are still waiting to receive their belongings. In evidence to the joint meeting of the BEIS and Transport Committees on March 24, Mr Hebblethwaite had previously assured MPs that P&O Ferries had taken steps to return them.
