Labour reacts to Which? research showing almost half of the UK’s bank branches have disappeared

Tulip Siddiq MP, Shadow Economic Secretary to the Treasury, commenting on research from Which? that shows almost half of the UK’s bank branches have disappeared, said:

“Even as overall cash use declines it is important to recognise this will still be a vital means of payment for many, especially older people and small businesses. We absolutely need to make sure that nobody is left behind.

“Payment systems will continue to innovate but we mustn’t have a proportion of the population cut off from a wide range of goods and services because cash use is no longer accepted. 

“We must keep the element of choice here and the Conservatives must make sure people still have a free-to-access, convenient cash system in the future.”
