MPs to investigate lower post-university employment rates for lower-income students 

The Education Committee will question key higher education stakeholders on why students from lower income backgrounds and some minority groups are less likely to complete university, receive top grades, and proceed to employment.  

MPs are also expected to examine how universities are currently using online and blended learning, and to what extent in-person teaching is being allowed to take place. The advantages and disadvantages of both approaches are likely to be discussed. 

With student wellbeing at its “lowest level yet” post-pandemic, the session is likely to investigate whether universities are doing enough to protect student mental health and what further steps they could take. 

Freedom of speech may also be discussed, with possible questions being asked of the effectiveness of the Government’s current Freedom of Speech Bill.
