The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Committee is
seeking views from interested individuals and organisations on
Common Frameworks - the mechanisms by which the UK and devolved
governments will agree regulatory consistency in policy areas
previously held by the EU.
Several of these frameworks cover issues that are the
responsibility of DEFRA, including air quality, agricultural
support, animal and plant health and fisheries.
The EFRA Committee wants to hear from interested individuals and
organisations on the DEFRA Common Frameworks to inform its
approach in scrutinising these
frameworks.
Background
The United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union has resulted in
several powers that were previously held by the EU being returned
to the UK. Many of these powers relate to EFRA policy and
intersect with the competencies of the devolved governments in
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
In February, the UK Government and the devolved administrations
published draft Common Frameworks which set out how they will
work together and, if necessary, manage disputes in policy areas
previously held by the EU.
More details on how to submit evidence and the full terms of
reference for the committee’s work in this area can be found
here.
If you would like to submit written evidence, guidance on giving
evidence to a select committee of the House of Commons is
available here
The deadline for written submissions is 8 April 2022 at
17.00.
