Labour responds to reports on use of military to counter migrant crossings

Luke Pollard MP, Shadow Armed Forces Minister, responding to the Defence Committee’s report on use of the military to counter migrant crossings, said:

“The Home Secretary is once again relying on our Forces to fix her failures. 

“The Royal Navy will do this job with total professionalism, but they should be focussed on defending Britain and our allies against Russian aggression. Our Armed Forces are there to protect the nation, not Tory Ministers.

“Labour wants to see a clear plan from Ministers for the Border Force to be fixed and taken out of special measures – including a timetable for cross-channel migration to be returned from military to civilian control.”
