As part of its continuing inquiry examining the Government’s
policy priorities for land planning and use in England, the House
of Lords Land Use in England Committee will hold two evidence
sessions next week. The Committee will hear evidence about land
use and planning issues for farming and agriculture.
The sessions will take place on Monday 7 March from
3.30pm and will be available to watch live or on demand
at Parliament
TV or in person in Committee Room 2, Palace
of Westminster.
Giving evidence will be;
3.30pm
-
Susan Twining, Chief Land Use Policy Adviser,
Country Land and Business Association
4.15pm
-
Dr Andrew Clark, Director of Policy, National
Farmers Union
Questions will include:
- What will be the main impacts of the Government’s 25 Year
Environment Plan, the net zero 2050 commitment and 30 by 30
targets on Land Use and do you see any unintended
consequences?
- What are the main challenges and opportunities of the
Environmental Land Management schemes and how is it affecting
farmers and landowners?
- How would having a unified spatial framework at different
scales help to encourage projects to restore
biodiversity?
- What challenges and opportunities do the current government
housing targets and “levelling up” agenda present for rural and
farming communities?
- What organisation or organisations would be best placed to
plan and decide on the allocation of land for the various
competing agendas for land use in England, and how would you
suggest they set about doing so?
