The International Trade Committee continues its scrutiny of the Australia
trade deal with a session examining the environmental,
labour, gender and development impacts of the agreement at
10am on Wednesday 2 March.
In the first panel, the Committee will explore environmental
provisions within the trade deal, including their enforceability,
their likely effects and/or detriments on environmental standards
for both countries, and their impact on climate change
commitments under the Paris Agreement.
From 11am, the Committee will then explore the deal’s so-called
“level playing-field” provisions, relating to labour, gender and
development issues. Commitments made under the deal include
effective enforcement of labour standards, tackling barriers for
women in accessing the benefits of trade and investment, and
bilateral cooperation on international development.
