Yvette Cooper comments on today’s police workforce statistics

Yvette Cooper MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, commenting on today’s police workforce statistics, said:

“The Tories have badly failed on crime and policing. Today’s figures show there are still 6000 fewer police officers, nearly 8000 fewer PCSOs and 7000 fewer police staff than in 2010 when the Tories came to power - a total cut of more than 20,000 to the police workforce at the same time as recorded violent crime has gone up.

“Communities are being let down as a result, as the number of prosecutions has plummeted by more than a third since 2010. That means thousands more criminals are getting away with it and thousands more victims are being let down. The Tories have badly failed on crime and policing - they have become the party of chaos and disorder and they are letting the country down.”
