UK Health Security Agency publishes qualitative assessment of the risk of canine leishmaniosis

The UK Health Security Agency has published qualitative assessment of the risk that canine leishmaniosis presents to the UK population.

Leishmaniasis is the term used to cover a diverse group of diseases of humans and other mammals (in which it is usually called leishmaniosis), caused by obligate intracellular protozoan parasites of the genus Leishmania.

Canine leishmaniosis is primarily caused by L. infantum. Canine leishmaniosis has been reported in untravelled dogs in UK.

This risk assessment was carried out to determine the level of risk to the UK population.
