Details
The statistics on police use of force within this release cover
incidents in England and Wales between 1 April 2020 and 31 March
2021. Data were collected from the 43 Home Office funded police
forces in England and Wales.
The police use of force statistics, year ending March 2021 are
classified as official statistics. This is the fourth annual
publication of these statistics and the first year that the
experimental statistics label has been removed from the
publication. This indicates that the development stage of the
statistics has ended, and that: feedback demonstrates that the
statistics are useful and credible; the statistical methods
involved in analysing the data are now well established; the
quality and coverage limitations are known and the impact of
these are understood
