Lucy Powell responds to Kevin Brennan's Bill

Lucy Powell MP, Labour’s Shadow Culture Secretary, ahead of the second reading of the Bill to ensure fair remuneration for performers and composers, said: 

“I am tremendously proud of the UK's world-beating commercial music industry. 

“Musicians must be fully rewarded for their work, but at the moment the enormous revenues generated by streaming services are not being shared fairly with songwriters. 

“I fully support Kevin Brennan’s efforts with this Bill. There is now a broad consensus that this issue needs addressing after the Select Committee report on which his bill is based. 

“I hope the Government will vote for this Bill.  If they don’t, they should keep their promise to address this injustice by bringing forward their own legislation.”
