Health and Social Services
We continue to advise against all but essential international
travel. However, in line with the changes being introduced
elsewhere in the UK to help prevent the spread of the
new coronavirus variant – omicron – into the UK, I am today
agreeing new rules for all travellers arriving in Wales from
non-red list countries.
From 4am on Tuesday 30 November all fully-vaccinated travellers
arriving in Wales, including under 18s, will need to
self-isolate on their return and take a PCR test before or
on day two. We are considering whether we will also require
a PCR test on day eight.
Once they have received a negative test result they can leave
isolation. If a positive test is received they continue to
self-isolate for ten days from the date the test was taken.
Currently, non-vaccinated travellers returning from non-red
listed countries are required to take a PCR test at day two
and day eight and self-isolate for 10 days. These
requirements will remain unchanged.
Similar rules are being introduced in all parts of the UK.
The emergence of the omicron variant is a serious development in
the ongoing pandemic and we all need to take steps to keep
ourselves safe.
We continue to encourage everyone in Wales to get vaccinated –
this includes having a booster vaccine; to wear face
coverings in all indoor public places and to take other
simple steps to protect yourself and your loved ones.
If you have symptoms of coronavirus, please isolate and arrange
to have a test.
