Liz Kendall responds to Andrew Dilnot's evidence to the Treasury Select Committee

Liz Kendall MP, Labour’s Shadow Social Care Minister, responding to Andrew Dilnot’s evidence to the Treasury Select Committee this morning, said:

“Andrew Dilnot’s comments today confirm what we already knew – that the Prime Minister’s so-called cap on care costs is a complete con.

“Instead, ordinary working people are facing a tax hike that will do nothing to improve care now, and instead of protecting their parents’ homes, will only protect the homes of the wealthiest in our society.

“Once again the Tories have failed to stand up for those who need care and their families. Our elderly people deserve better.”

• Andrew Dilnot appeared in front of the Commons Treasury Select Committee this morning, and confirmed that everybody with assets of less than £186k would do less well under what the Government is proposing than under what was legislated for in the Care Act 2014
