ASCL comment on Education Secretary’s speech at COP26

Commenting on the education measures on climate change and the environment being announced by Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi at COP26, Geoff Barton, General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, said:

“We welcome measures on climate and environmental education and look forward to seeing more detail about these initiatives.

“Schools and colleges already work very hard on tackling climate change and looking after the environment through practical measures, activities and education which reflect the depth of feeling among their pupils on this crucial topic.

“It is very clear that children and young people rightly want to see far more concerted action from policy-makers to address the climate emergency.

“They are fed up with platitudes and will be hoping that COP26 delivers real progress.”
