Care England, the largest representative body of independent
adult social care providers, has welcomed the report from the
National Audit Office regarding the adult social care market.
Professor Martin Green OBE, Chief Executive of Care England,
says:
"The NAO report gives clear evidence that the social care system
is fragile and in urgent need of reform”.
The report examines the current care market and the DHSC’s role
in overseeing the market now and in the future, with the aim of
offering insights and recommendations ahead of future social care
reforms. It builds on a significant body of past National Audit
Office (NAO) work on care, including on the care workforce;
personalised commissioning; and the interface between health and
care.
The report concludes that short term funding and lack of a
long-term vision has hampered planning, innovation and investment
in the sector. Furthermore, it maintains that the current
accountability and oversight arrangements are ineffective for
overseeing the care market. More information can be found at

Martin Green continues:
“The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the importance of social care
and the need to regard it as part of the national infrastructure.
Care England, stands ready to support the Government in
developing a new vision for social care, that is properly funded,
understood, and respected by everyone”.
