The Scottish Government is supporting the establishment of a new
academic and industry network for zero-emission mobility
solutions.
Working with the Energy Technology Partnership, the goal is to
bring together academia and industry so that Scotland can draw on
its world-class pool of knowledge and expertise. The main benefit
of this approach is to create an improved environment for
co-ordinated research activities, which should lead to new areas
of innovation and opportunities for commercial growth.
This builds on new clusters of innovation for zero-emission
transport solutions. This includes the Hydrogen Accelerator at St
Andrews, the Driving the Electric Revolution Industrialisation
Centre Scotland and Power Networks Demonstration Centre at the
University of Strathclyde, and the LOCATE project to establish
and operate a drivetrain testing facility based at the Michelin
Scotland Innovation Parc in Dundee.
Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and
Connectivity said:
“In establishing this new network for academic and industry
research, I hope we can greatly accelerate the development of
zero-emission transport solutions developed here in Scotland.
“Many of the organisations involved will be able to take
advantage of the new clusters for innovation we’re developing
across the country and work to create a steady stream of projects
intended to eliminate transport emissions and respond to the
climate emergency.
“I’m pleased that this work stems from recommendations made
through the Scottish Government’s Industry Advisory Group on
zero-emission mobility solutions. There’s a real appetite for
this type of collaboration and I’m grateful to the Energy
Technology Partnership for their support in facilitating this
work.”
Sir Jim Macdonald Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the
University of Strathclyde said:
“The Energy Technology Partnership has a decade long track record
of building academic networks based on Scotland’s world-class
capability and resources in energy research and innovation. I am
delighted that ETP and Transport Scotland are establishing a new
collaboration through a range of projects that will have a
positive impact on zero-emission mobility and deliver
socio-economic benefits for Scotland.”
