Proposal for the Longer Duration Energy Storage Demonstration innovation competition

Details

The Longer Duration Energy Storage Demonstration innovation competition is intended to accelerate commercialisation of innovative longer duration energy storage projects (i.e. excluding commercial solutions such as pumped hydro/lithium ion) at different technology readiness levels, through first-of-a-kind (FOAK) full-system prototypes or actual demonstrations.

This document provides details of the competition, including an indicative budget and timeline.

The full competition guidance is expected to be published in spring 2021.

Please read the competition details about the Longer Duration Energy Storage Demonstration.

You can then email your interest to smart.innovation@BEIS.gov.uktitling the email “NZIP Energy Storage”. Include your company name and which stream and technology category you would be interested in. This will ensure you are notified once further details become available.

We encourage any comments on the proposed competition approach.

Expressing interest does not advantage a supplier or applicant and failing to express interest does not preclude a supplier or applicant from applying to any future competition.
