The House of Lords Sport and Recreation Committee will this week
take evidence from organisations promoting participation in sport
and physical activity.
The Committee will hear from the Football Foundation,
parkrun and GoodGym on their innovative approaches to get
communities active. There will then be a session with the Outdoor
Industries Association, Ramblers and Cycling UK on how people can
be encouraged to be active outdoors beyond traditional team
sports.
The evidence sessions will start at 3:30pm on

The first session will cover issues such as the
performance of Sport England in supporting organisations
delivering sport and recreation opportunities in local
communities, access to greenspaces and other sports and leisure
facilities, and how the witnesses’ organisations work with local
authorities and local sports clubs and whether they could work
more closely together.
The second session will see the Committee explore the
boom in informal outdoor exercise and physical activity and how
that can be harnessed to get more people active, what needs to be
done to encourage young people to be active and how the
organisations promote diversity in those taking
part.
