Home Affairs committee: Evidence session on online harms - Facebook, Google, Snapchat, TikTok and Twitter to give evidence

The Home Affairs Committee online harms holds a one-off session on online harms on Wednesday 20 January, taking evidence from senior representatives of social media firms Facebook, Google (owners of Youtube), Snapchat, TikTok and Twitter.

The session will seek the response of the social media companies to the Government’s proposals for regulating online harms, and discuss the actions taken by platforms to identify and remove illegal and harmful content on their services.

The session will explore the use of social media by organised crime groups to facilitate illegal activity, including human trafficking and illegal migration, and Facebook’s plans to implement end-to-end encryption in its messaging services.

The Committee will also examine questions raised by the action taken by social media companies against the accounts of President Trump.
