This week has written to asking that
school staff be prioritised for the coronavirus vaccination, by
being placed in priority group 7 and being vaccinated alongside
over 60’s.
Bath’s MP wrote to the Education Secretary on behalf of teachers
and school staff in Bath. The letter goes into detail about the
challenges and difficulties faced by the educational community in
her constituency. These include:
- Concerns over staffing and logistics at Bath nurseries.
- Concerns over wellbeing of school staff, including those
teaching the children of key workers.
- Concerns over the mental health of school staff and the impact
of Government messaging on the education community.
Bath’s MP has urged the Government to “work with teaching
professionals and their union representatives to map out a safe
way forward for schools to reopen in due course."
said:
“All school and nursery staff are essential, frontline workers.
And during the course of the pandemic, they have been
overextended and undervalued time and time again. If we want to
get our children back to school, receiving the full benefits of
education, then we must prioritise the vaccination of teachers
and school staff after the top priority groups of those who are
health workers and clinically vulnerable.”
“It is high time that this Government steps up to support our
educators.”
