Protecting pension savers inquiry: Work and Pensions Committee to hold session on experiences of victims of pension scams

The Work and Pensions Committee is to hear from victims of pension scams as its inquiry into the pension freedoms and protecting savers continues.

The witnesses will talk about the impact that pension scams have had on them. They will also share their experiences of the support they received and how their cases were handled by their pension provider and organisations involved in preventing scams.

The second part of the meeting will hear from representatives of the Police Foundation, Action Fraud and the National Economic Crime Victim Care Unit. Questions are likely to focus on trends in scams since the introduction of the pension freedoms, as well as ways of preventing them and how victims are best supported.

The Committee’s inquiry is reviewing the impact of the pension freedoms five years on. After an initial focus on pension scams, it will examine accessing pension savings and saving for later life.
