, Chair of the Treasury Committee, has written
to , Chancellor of the Exchequer, to request again
that he provide oral evidence on Spending Review 2020 and the
Office for Budget Responsibility’s (OBR) Economic and Fiscal
Outlook.
The Committee is taking evidence from the OBR and a panel of
economists, but the Chancellor has so far declined to attend an
evidence session.
Commenting on the correspondence, Mr Stride said:
“Effective scrutiny helps ensure that the best decisions are
made. At a critical juncture for our economy, it’s now more vital
than ever that the Government engages with select
committees.
“The Spending Review was a major fiscal event with many
profound implications for the economy and the livelihoods of
millions of people up and down the country.
“The Committee hopes that the Chancellor will now agree to
provide evidence to us before the end of the year.”
