Polling released by Survation today has found that Labour members
disagree with Keir Starmer’s decision to remove the whip from
Jeremy Corbyn and believe that the policies of the 2019 manifesto
were broadly correct. On the whip decision, 48% of members thought
that Keir Starmer was wrong to not reinstate the whip to Jeremy

Polling released by Survation today has found that Labour
members disagree with Keir Starmer’s decision to remove the whip
from and believe that the policies of the 2019 manifesto were
broadly correct.
On the whip decision, 48% of members thought that was wrong to not reinstate the whip to whilst 46% thought he was right. Asked if the policies
of the 2019 manifesto were broadly correct, 74% agreed - signalling
a significant majority of support for headline policies like ending
the privatisation of the NHS and taking rail, mail, water and
energy into public ownership. Going further into policy specifics,
45% of members put bringing forwards net-zero carbon energy targets
into the 2030s as one of their top two priorities, showing a strong
continued support for Green New Deal as a central plank of the
party's policy platform.
Alongside the results of the National Executive Committee
announced earlier this month, in which the left Grassroots Voice
slate won a significant majority of the member vote, this polling
is more evidence that there remains a socialist majority amongst
ordinary members of the party.
Andrew Scattergood, Momentum co-chair, said: “This polling
demonstrates that the membership of our party remains committed to
transformative socialist politics.
“Keir Starmer was elected promising party unity and socialist
policy. So far he has provided neither. Instead, we've been plunged
into a damaging civil war that has profoundly undermined many
members' trust in the leadership.
“If Labour is to move forwards, the leadership needs to stop
the ongoing crackdown on the left, accelerate democratic reform of
the party, and begin to embrace the transformative socialist ideas
that unite us.”
The polling was released just hours after a leaked email from
party staff to regional officials instructed them to rule any
motions discussing the removal of the whip from out of order, and threatening to suspend any members who
do not comply. At least 40 CLPs have so far passed motions in
support of and opposing the leadership’s ongoing crackdown on the
left.
