The Work and Pensions Committee continues its
inquiry into DWP’s
preparations for changes in the world of work with a session
focusing on the impact of the changes on specific groups.
The meeting will be a chance to explore how technological change
in the workplace will affect groups including disabled people,
women, black and minority ethnic (BAME) people, older workers and
people with caring responsibilities.
The first panel will focus on support for older people and access
to assistive technologies. The second panel will discuss issues
relating to women’s employment, BAME and younger people and those
with caring responsibilities.
The Committee’s inquiry is looking at some of the possible medium
and long-term changes likely to affect the workplace and how the
DWP needs to prepare to support people both in and out of work.
Previous sessions have focused on the impact of
automation and how to
ensure young people in particular are properly supported to adapt
to labour market changes. The Committee has also taken
evidence on the
benefits and drawbacks of a Universal Basic Income.
