The Education Select Committee is holding an evidence session
with students and apprentices to consider the effects of the
COVID-19 outbreak on apprenticeships and the skills sector. The
session is part of the ongoing inquiry into the impact of the
outbreak on education and children’s services, and follows on
from the Committee’s evidence session
on 24 June.
The session will examine how the outbreak has affected
apprenticeships and skills education and will consider measures
to support the sector as the recovery from COVID-19
begins. On the first panel the Committee will speak to
a group of current students and young apprentices to learn about
their experience of the lockdown. The second panel will be with
the FE Commissioner, Richard Atkins, and the Chief Executive of
the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education,
Jennifer Coupland.
On 2 July the Government announced its intention for
further education providers, including colleges and independent
training providers, to open full time and for all learners from
September 2020.
