Over 2,500
people from heritage organisations across the UK are expected to
benefit from free training and support to develop
their digital skills, thanks to
a new initiative launched
today (Monday 10 February) by The National Lottery
Heritage Fund.
The initiative,
aptly named ‘Digital Skills for Heritage’, is designed to promote
digital skills and leadership across the heritage sector, and
will also help organisations increase their digital
confidence and use technology more creatively to bring
heritage to more people across the
UK.
Josie
Fraser, Head of Digital Policy for The National
Lottery Heritage Fund
said:
“We’re excited
to launch our new advocacy initiative ‘Digital Skills for
Heritage’ today which aims to drive up digital capabilities
across the heritage sector and give organisations, of all shapes
and sizes, an opportunity to learn how to thrive in an
increasingly digital world.
“Heritage
organisations are diverse, with widely varying needs – locations,
sizes and levels of digital maturity – and our activities aim to
reflect that. So, not only are we inviting organisations to learn
more about the low cost and impactful, ways to bring
heritage to more people, we’re also investing in senior leaders
across the sector to use digital methods to help deliver their
organisational missions.”
The new ‘Digital
Skills for Heritage’ initiative seeks
to:
· Advocate
for driving up digital capabilities within the heritage
sector through a focused
package of communications, namely, sharing knowledge, best
practice, tips, tools and other resources with those who might
not benefit directly from the first-hand training delivered via
the funded opportunities.
· Support
a new wave of digitally informed leadership, by
offering welcoming, peer-based training
to 30 heritage senior
executives to become digital
leaders.
· Provide one-to-one
mentoring for organisations who
have been identified by the The National Lottery
Heritage Fund as those who will greatly benefit from increasing
their digital skills and
confidence.
· Invest
nearly £500,000 in the provision of UK-wide free
advice and support on how to integrate digital tools
into heritage work more effectively.
· Make creative,
impactful use of digital and support the development
of digital skills and digital organisational
maturity.
