Long-Bailey responds to the government's business rates relief announcement

Rebecca Long-Bailey MP, Labour’s Shadow Business Secretary, responding to the government’s business rates relief announcement, said:

“As campaigners themselves have said this is a sticking plaster solution for a problem that the Tories themselves have created.

“Many businesses are closing because of a business rates system that needs urgent reform as well as a lack of public investment in high streets and a loss of spending power under austerity.

“Today’s announcement will do little more than grab a headline when more fundamental reform is urgently required.”
