The Secretary of State has appointed Sarah Fowler, Nadine
Tomson, and Andy Wood as Board Members of VEAB for 5 years
from 6th January 2020 to 5th January 2025
Sarah Fowler is chief executive of the Peak District
National Park Authority. Sarah works to deliver positive
change for people and the environment.
In her current role she speaks up for and cares for the
Peak District National Park for all to enjoy forever. Her
work is about National Parks being more diverse, in nature
and in the people connecting with them. It is about looking
after the best of the British countryside and inspiring
people to feel connected with nature, feel great and to
care. National Park Authorities are part of a global
family, and of their local communities, they continuously
test and work out how a sustainable future is possible. In
her previous roles, she has managed major environmental and
flooding incidents and worked locally, nationally and
internationally delivering and advocating for sustainable
development. She previously worked in the Environment
Agency, led Peterborough Environment City Trust, worked at
English Nature (Natural England’s predecessor) and the
Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. She began her
career at the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. Sarah is a board
member of Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire Active Partners
Trust and a Trustee of UK National Parks Foundation. At
home, she has helped run an organic farm and enjoys getting
outdoors with family and friends.
Nadine Thomson is the Global Chief Technology Officer for
MediaCom, a media agency that uses data, technology and
creativity to design communication strategies that build
brands. She has a thorough understanding of the travel and
tourism industry having led change internationally at STA
Travel to enable a multi-channel, eCommerce business. Over
her career, Nadine has led global digital technology
programmes across Travel, Retail, Media and Leisure. She
has recently worked as Group Technology Director for Conde
Nast International (Vogue, GQ, Traveller) CIO Advisory for
Capita and Technology Director for Vue Cinemas. Nadine has
10 years Non-Executive experience as Vice Chair for the
Board of Cinema For All and Trustee for Host UK.
Andy Wood joined Adnams in 1994, he joined the Board in
2000 as Sales and Marketing Director becoming Managing
Director in 2006 and Chief Executive in 2010. He has a DBA
from Cranfield University and Honorary doctorates; in
Business from Anglia Ruskin University, in Science from
Cranfield University and Civil Law from the University of
East Anglia. He was also awarded an OBE in the Queen’s
Birthday Honours 2013 and between 2014 to 2016 was HRH The
Prince of Wales’ Ambassador for Responsible business in the
East of England. In 2010 Andy founded and was Chairman of
the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership, he has
co-authored a book on Lean and Green Business Systems which
was awarded the Shingo prize for Operational Excellence in
2013. He is Non-Executive Chairman of SGWM a wealth
management company operating throughout East Anglia and a
Non-Executive Director of The Hotel Folk. Andy is a
Governor of Norwich School and Chairman of Visit East of
England.
These roles are remunerated at £3,300 per annum. This
appointment has been made in accordance with
the Cabinet Office’s
Governance Code on Public Appointments. The process is
regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. The
Government’s Governance Code requires that any significant
political activity undertaken by an appointee in the last
five years is declared. This is defined as holding office,
public speaking, making a recordable donation or
candidature for election. Neither Ms Fowler or Mr Wood have
declared any activity. Ms Thomson has declared that she has
made recordable donations to the Women’s Equality Party.
