BP's Bob Dudley to step down - Greenpeace reaction

Reacting to the news that BP CEO Bob Dudley is to step down, John Sauven, Executive Director at Greenpeace UK said: 

From the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster to the climate emergency, Bob Dudley’s tenure as BP’s boss has been a failure. 

These valuable years should have been used to end the expansion of fossil fuels. Instead, BP set their sights on risky developments from the Amazon Reef to the Great Australian Bight. BP even lobbied Donald Trump for weaker fossil fuel regulations. These actions have fuelled the climate emergency, cost untold lives and put all our futures at risk.

The new CEO has an opportunity to turn the page on years of denial, inaction and prevarication. BP should now pivot away from fossil fuels, shift to renewable energy and support a just transition for its workers.
