, Chair of the PAC said:
“While events in Parliament in recent days have generated much
heat, the role of the Public Accounts Committee is to shed light
on how government operates and hold it to account. Brexit is
quite rightly an area we have regularly focused much upon but
there remain many other serious issues where it is important that
government is being properly scrutinised.
“Many of our forthcoming inquiries have an immediate impact on
the public whether it concerns the safety of the food we eat; the
decline in the take up of pre-school vaccinations – described by
the head of NHS England as a “serious and growing public health
timebomb” - or how well the justice system is being modernised.
“Irrespective of the outcome of Brexit, the PAC will continue to
pursue the interests of the taxpayer. We want to ensure their
hard-earned money is properly protected and impress upon
government departments that where mistakes are made that lessons
are then learnt. “
Upcoming inquiries
This coming week the Committee will be looking
on Monday 30 September at the funding
support for children with Special Educational Needs
and Disabilities and on Wednesday 2
October at the recent NAO report
on Exiting the EU: supplying the health and social
care sectors.
Over future weeks the PAC will also be launching inquiries on a
wide range of issues of great public interest including:
