The UK and Ireland’s largest union, Unite expressed deep concern
over today’s (Friday 13 September) announcement of the proposed
sale of SSE Energy Services to OVO Energy. Warning that it would
not tolerate workers paying the price for the sale with their jobs,
pay and terms and conditions, Unite went on to say that it would be
seeking urgent meetings with both companies to seek ‘cast iron’

The UK and Ireland’s largest union, Unite expressed deep concern
over today’s (Friday 13 September) announcement of the proposed
sale of SSE Energy Services to OVO Energy.
Warning that it would not tolerate workers paying the price for the
sale with their jobs, pay and terms and conditions, Unite went on
to say that it would be seeking urgent meetings with both companies
to seek ‘cast iron’ assurances.
Unite has over 3,000 members at SSE Energy Services across the UK
which includes customer service staff, smart meter installers and
meter readers. The proposed sale affects all of the 8,000 plus
employees of SSE Energy Services.
Commenting Unite national officer for energy Peter McIntosh
said: “This announcement is causing massive uncertainty among
workers who are concerned that they will pay the price for the sale
with their jobs, pay and terms and conditions.
“Unite will not tolerate any move to erode our members’ conditions
as a result of this sale. We are seeking urgent meetings with both
SSE Energy Services and OVO Energy to secure cast iron assurances
about our members’ futures.”
