The Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS)
Committee is to question interim Energy and Clean
Growth Minister MP on the Government’s
approach to cutting emissions to net zero by 2050 and the likely
impact on people and businesses.
The hearing is part of the Committee’s inquiry into the Clean Growth
Strategy and climate change targets, focussing on the ‘net
zero’ emissions by 2050 target. It will examine the rationale
behind the Government’s adoption of the net zero target, the
policies, actions, and regulations necessary to achieve it, and
the role of businesses and consumers.
The Committee last month announced plans for a
Citizens’ Assembly to consider different policy choices
and the fairest way of sharing the costs of meeting the net zero
target, and members are likely to question the Minister about the
importance of engaging the public in delivering the right
policies to get to net zero.
The Committee heard this week from Sir
David Attenborough on the impacts and public perception
of climate change.
Mr Skidmore is currently covering the role of Minister of State
