EDF to renationalise nuclear business - Greenpeace response

In response to reports that the board of EDF are discussing plans to renationalise their nuclear operations, Dr Doug Parr, Chief Scientist at Greenpeace UK, said:

"Those of us who have been following the disastrous failure of nuclear power to compete in a free market in the UK will not be surprised that France isn't finding it easy either. The technology's seventy years of teething troubles continue unabated. New flaws in the welds of the only French reactor under construction is delaying its start up yet again. And renewable energy costs have now plunged well below the level nuclear can ever hope to compete with. Only governments, using cash from the unwitting tax-payer, have pockets deep enough and hearts soft enough to keep this industry limping on. It’s time to do the decent thing and put the nuclear industry out of its misery."
