TPA: Britain needs pro-business policies, not new taxes

Responding to the Chancellors's Spring Statement today, John O'Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance said:

"Today's statement was packed with two-bit tinkering. Taxpayers want their money spent on the things that matter - like the announcements on policing and schools - but also expect this to come hand in hand with cutting waste. With the spending review on the horizon, and the tax burden still at a 50-year high, the chancellor should be turning his mind to prioritising key public services and tax cuts.

"It was welcome to hear the chancellor reiterate the government's commitment to being the party of lower taxes and businesses, but this isn't the whole story. While Hammond is splashing millions on science and tech initiatives, he also continues to pursue a dangerous 'digital tax' on consumers. With Brexit looming, Britain needs pro-business policies, not new taxes and regulations."
