Ministers quizzed on future of Scotland’s oil and gas industry

The value of oil and gas produced in Scotland in 2017-18 was an estimated £20 billion, but the future of the industry is uncertain due to fluctuating oil prices and a drive towards more environmentally friendly energy sources, in line with global climate change commitments. The Committee’s inquiry has investigated the Governments strategy for maximising economic recovery, calls for further investment through a sector deal, future decommissioning options for Scotland’s oil and gas industry, the potential for carbon capture and storage and opportunities from energy transition.

The Committee will question the Ministers on Government ambition for the future of the industry, covering issues such as financial support for clean growth.
