The Government votes against Labour’s amendment to ban foie gras - Sue Hayman

Sue Hayman MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, commenting on the Government voting against Labour’s amendment to the Agriculture Bill to ban foie gras imports, said:

“Despite all of the rhetoric from Michael Gove on animal welfare and the environment, he has failed once again to take any action when provided with the perfect opportunity to do so.

“The production of foie gras is incredibly cruel. This inhumane practice must end.”

(1) Foie gras may not be imported into the UK.

(2) “Foie gras”, for the purposes of this section, shall mean a product derived from the liver of any goose or duck which has been force-fed for the purpose of enlarging its liver.”
