Education sector to give evidence to Lords Seaside Town Regeneration Committee

What steps could be taken to improve access to further and higher education for people living in coastal areas? How can coastal areas do better at attracting and retaining high-quality teachers? What support do these areas need to meet the skills requirements of their local economies? 

These are among the questions that the House of Lords Regenerating Seaside Towns and Communities Committee will be asking representatives from the education sector on Tuesday 13 November 2018.

At 4pm the Committee will hear from:

• Geoff Barton, General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders
• Professor Ian Fribbance, Executive Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences at the Open University
• Steve Frampton MBE, President of the Association of Colleges.

Other issues the Committee is likely to discuss include the problems with education attainment at secondary level and the impact that low aspiration among young people in coastal communities is having on how they do at school and the jobs they do afterwards. 

This evidence session, which is open to the public, will begin at 4pm on Tuesday 13 November 2018 in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
