Nus Ghani MP and Wealden farmers meet with farming minister

The meeting was an opportunity for Nus and the Wealden farmers to put across their views and concerns about agriculture policy and how it should be formulated in future.

Farmers from across Wealden attended, including the lead for the South East branch and Wealden branch of the National Farmers Union. Issues discussed included planning, funding after we leave the EU next year, provision of rural broadband, Government support for deer farming and the Government’s recent Agriculture Bill.

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “Our farmers are incredibly important for our local economy, providing so many jobs and of course as a vital food source across East Sussex.

“We had a constructive and useful meeting with the Farming Minister, and we were able to get across many of the concerns facing our farming communities in Wealden today.

“I was reassured by George Eustice’s commitment to backing our farmers and supporting the local economy, as well as taking advantage of the opportunities the next few years will present and making them work for Wealden.

I’d like to thank all of the farmers from Groombridge to Cross-in-Hand and all the towns in between who made the trip up to Westminster. I’ll continue to lobby on their behalf to make sure Wealden’s needs are met.”
