Anneliese Dodds responds to new loopholes in EU anti-tax evasion rules

Anneliese Dodds MP, Labour’s Shadow Treasury Minister, commenting on reports that new loopholes have been found in EU anti-tax evasion rules, said:

"There is clearly now rising concern about how unscrupulous individuals can duck under international rules designed to stop tax dodging and corruption.

“The UK has not been immune, with major concerns that so-called 'golden visas' to the UK may have been provided to politicians and others suspected of corruption.

“The UK government now needs to wake up to the reality of modern-day corruption and tax avoidance.

“Our country cannot provide a means for the corrupt to hide their money or evade tax. Labour’s Tax Transparency and Enforcement Programme will close the loopholes and flush out tax avoiders and evaders from the system.”
