The Welsh Liberal Democrats have welcomed the publication of
Wales’ first ever Rural Education Action Plan which has been
launched by Welsh Lib Dem Education Secretary .
Since joining the Welsh Government, AM has implemented a large
number of Welsh Liberal Democrat policies which will support and
raise standards in rural schools.
Reforms included in the new action plan include:
- a Small and Rural School grant to encourage innovation and
raise standards;
- a new ‘E-sgol’ project that will use video technology to
connect classrooms so that pupils from one school can join
classes at other schools remotely;
- strengthening the School Organisation Code in respect of a
presumption against the closure of rural schools; and
- additional funding to improve connectivity in rural schools.
Welsh Liberal Democrat Leader said:
“This marks Wales’ first ever rural school action plan and
strategy. This is because we now have an Education
Secretary that understands the challenges facing rural
communities and who is implementing Welsh Liberal Democrat
policies.
“Schools are the backbone of their rural communities. In
government the Welsh Liberal Democrats are supporting rural
schools to ensure all pupils can reach their potential.
“Our party has a proud history of standing up for our rural
communities. Today is a continuation of that proud history.”
