During Prime Minister's Questions, Conservative MP (Waveney) raised the subject of
rough sleepers and the work being done in his constituency by
organisations under the "Thin Ice" initiative to provide
accomodation for homeless people from Nov 1 to Feb 28.
He asked the PM if she would "build on the rough sleeping strategy
and provide a longer term funding system to help charities such as
Access Community Trust and ST. MUNGO'S to put in
place bespoke initiatives to prevent anyone actually having to
sleep rough".
In reply, the PM congratulated for raising the issue, and
stated that the Government doesn't want to see anyone sleeping on
the streets, and why they are committed to eradicating rough
sleeping by 2027.
She added that "we are investing over £3M per year with the
voluntary sector groups to train and advise local authority teams
to be able to address these issues. We want to make sure that rough
sleeping becomes a thing of the past".
