Blame for rising violent crime falls squarely on the PM's shoulders

Commenting on the NAO report into the sustainability of police forces in England and Wales, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs Spokesperson Ed Davey said:

“The fact the NAO is now reporting constables are finding it difficult to deliver an effective service is yet another shocking indictment of the government’s handle on policing.

“With the number of arrests dropping and violent crimes rising it is the most vulnerable in our communities who need the support and protection of the police.

“What is more the blame for this mess falls squarely on the shoulders of the PM. Theresa May was responsible for slashing police budgets and she appears to be resisting calls for extra spending on police. Liberal Democrats demand that the government immediately increases spending on community police to keep our communities safe.”
