Mayor and Secretary of State announce Hyde Park big screening of England game

• Free tickets will be available for the family-friendly screening of England vs Croatia
• Fans advised to only attend Hyde Park on Wednesday night if they have a ticket
• Biggest London screening of a football match since 1996

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Matt Hancock, are thrilled to announce that Hyde Park will host a public screening of England’s crucial match with Croatia.

For the first time since 1990 England will play in a World Cup semi-final and given the significance of Wednesday night’s game, City Hall and the Government have worked together to help fans follow the team’s journey with an outdoor screening.

The game in Moscow, broadcast here at 7pm, will give England the chance to reach their first World Cup final since 1966, and the Mayor and Government have worked with The Royal Parks, the Football Association and other agencies so that thousands of fans can enjoy the experience together at Hyde Park.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “World Cup fever has gripped London and the rest of the nation and we have all been swept away by the fantastic exploits of Gareth Southgate’s team. Wednesday evening is a huge opportunity for our boys to do what many of us thought was impossible before the World Cup began and reach the Final.

“I am sure Londoners of all ages and backgrounds will come together in their thousands at Hyde Park to cheer England on what could be an historic night. I am delighted that good teamwork has meant we have been able to pull out all the stops alongside Government and other agencies to arrange this big screening. We want this to be a family-friendly occasion and a chance for England fans young and old to show the positive spirit of football to the country and the world.

“This team has a chance to write themselves into football folklore and London and the entire country will be cheering them on as loud as we can on Wednesday night.”

Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Matt Hancock, said: “Gareth Southgate and his amazing team have brought people together this summer.

“Wednesday is a special day for our nation and I'm thrilled people will be able to come from far and wide to watch the game and cheer on England together."

The Mayor and Government have also confirmed that discussions are taking place regarding how to support a screening in the capital if England reach the World Cup Final.

Up to 30,000 tickets will be available. Ballot registration will start at 4pm and be live until midnight on Monday 9th July. Tickets will be allocated by a lottery system. Fans are being told to only attend Hyde Park if they have a ticket as there will be no admission to anyone without a ticket.

For those without a ticket, the event can be watched on ITV and there are also hundreds of other opportunities to join together to cheer on England in bars, restaurants, pubs and clubs across the capital. There will are also big screens available to watch the game in places including Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds, Bristol and Newcastle.

Tickets will be allocated through a lottery ballot system. There will be a maximum of four tickets per person. Tickets will be named and photo ID will be required.

Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult aged 21 or over.

Doors will open at 3pm. There will be food and drinks stalls on site.

The ticket ballot will be open from 4pm until midnight on Monday 9th July. Ticket recipients will find out if they are successful at 10am on Tuesday 10th July and be required to confirm attendance by 1pm on Tuesday 10th July.

Please only come to Hyde Park if you have a ticket for the football screening. You will not be allowed to enter the event without a ticket.

           .           All ballot winners will be sent an e-ticket.

.           To enter the event, each original purchaser and the people accompanying them to the show must be present.

.           The name of the original purchaser will be printed on each ticket which cannot be changed once the booking has been made.

           .           Each original purchaser must provide valid photo ID on entry.

.          There will be no exceptions to the above, no name changes or letters of authorisation will be accepted under any circumstances.

.           Tickets are not transferable under any circumstances.  Any resale, transfer, attempted resale or transfer will invalidate any ticket purchase.  Where there has been any re-sale or attempted re-sale of tickets, we reserve the right to cancel those tickets with immediate effect.

.           If selected:

o          Round 1: you will receive an email at approx. 10am on 10th July 2018 requiring confirmation of your attendance within three hours of receipt of the email. 

o          Round 2: if round 1 winners do not confirm by the deadline above, alternative winners will be selected and sent an email at approx. 1pm on 10th July 2018 requiring confirmation of attendance within three hours of receipt of the email.
