Lords to question BEIS minister on challenges and opportunities for SMEs after brexit

The House of Lords EU Internal Market Sub-Committee will question Andrew Griffiths MP, Minister for Small Business, Consumers and Corporate Responsibility, BEIS as part of its work examining the impacts of Brexit on SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises), start-ups and scale-ups onThursday 5 July. 

The Committee will question the Minister and Dr Rannia Leontaridi OBE, Director, Business Growth, BEIS, on what steps the Government is taking to help SMEs continue to recruit and retain EU nationals now and after the UK leaves the EU, and what structures are in place to engage with small businesses, including start-ups and scale-ups, to provide them with the information they need to prepare for Brexit.

The session will start at 11:00am on Thursday 5 July in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords. Questions are likely to include:

• What steps is the Government taking to help SMEs take advantage of new trade opportunities after the UK leaves the EU?
• Does Brexit provide any specific opportunities to improve domestic measures to support SMEs, including start-ups and scale-ups?
• What is the Government’s assessment of the understanding among UK SMEs about the implications of operating as ‘third country’ businesses in the Single Market?
• When can SMEs expect to receive more clarity on the role of the Shared Prosperity Fund?
