How will the chemicals industry be regulated after brexit asks Lords committee.

On Wednesday 27 June 2018 the House of Lords EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee will host a roundtable discussion to explore what Brexit will mean for the regulation of chemicals in the UK.

At 10.30am the Committee will take evidence from:

• Anita Lloyd, Legal Director, Squire Patton Boggs
• Roz Bulleid, Head of Climate, Energy and Environment Policy, EEF
• Libby Peak, Senior Policy Adviser, Green Alliance
• Silvia Segna, REACH Executive, Chemical Industries Association
• Peter Smith, Executive Director for Product Stewardship, Cefic.

The chemicals sector is the UK’s second biggest manufacturing industry. It exports 55 per cent of its output to the EU. It’s currently unclear to what extent the UK will remain involved in the EU’s regime for regulating chemicals (REACH) post-Brexit. 

Topics likely to be discussed at the roundtable include:

• The advantages and disadvantages of continuing to participate in REACH vs setting up a domestic regime for regulating chemicals.
• What steps Government and businesses need to take to prepare for a possible exit from REACH.
• How other non-EU countries interact with REACH.

This roundtable discussion is open to the public (to observe). It will begin at 10.30am on Wednesday 27 June 2018 in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
