Topics for next phase of Brexit talks published

Today the UK and the EU are building on the progress already made in the Brexit negotiations by outlining the topics for discussions on our future partnership.

The document — published by both the UK Government and European Commission — incorporates the economic and security partnerships outlined by the Prime Minister, as well as the institutional framework that will underpin them and other cross-cutting issues.

The two negotiating teams will use the topics over coming rounds to guide their discussions on the framework for the UK and EU’s future relationship.

David Davis, Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, said:

“We have made substantial progress in negotiations since triggering Article 50, and it is vital we keep up the momentum as we turn to talks on the future security and economic partnerships we want with the EU.

“This joint publication reflects the determination of both sides to achieve a broad partnership that stands the test of time. It is an important foundation for future discussions.”

Both the United Kingdom and European Union remain committed to reaching agreement on the terms of our future partnership by October, in addition to finalising the Withdrawal Agreement including the Protocol on Northern Ireland.
