The Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
Committee is holding a session examining issues relating to
charging infrastructure as part of its inquiry into the
development of the market for electric vehicles.
Witnesses include representatives from a local authority and a
charging infrastructure supplier as well as the UK Electric
Vehicle Supply Equipment Association. The Committee will also be
examining the experience of the development of infrastructure in
Scotland with the Energy Saving Trust.
Questioning is likely to focus on the major challenges faced by
those developing electric vehicle charging infrastructure as well
as the funding of and financial support for new chargepoints. MPs
could also ask about planning regulations and issues relating to
both home and on-street charging solutions.
The panel may also be asked about the Government’s £400 million
Charging Investment Infrastructure Fund after it was revealed
that the process of raising half the money from the private
sector has not yet begun.
The Committee’s inquiry is exploring the role of electric
vehicles in the transition to a low carbon economy. It is
investigating the actions needed to support the development of
the electric vehicle market, the challenges that electric
vehicles represent for the electricity grid, and industrial
opportunities for the automotive sector.
