Northern Ireland Affairs Committee publish Government response to Bombardier report

The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee have today published the Government’s response to their report on Bombardier. 

The report called on the Government to do more to protect UK jobs from the effects of punitive action. It recommended steps to ensure that in all cases where it had provided Repayable Investment Loans, the form of support given to Bombardier, WTO rules had been complied with and cases were watertight against legal action. It also supported the Government taking the actions of Boeing into account when procuring new business, had they not withdrawn their complaint against Bombardier.

Publishing the response, Committee Chair Dr Andrew Murrison commented:

“It is a great relief that Boeing has dropped its action against Bombardier. Had it not done so it seems likely that it's wider commercial interests would have been compromised, not least through a cooling of its relationship with the UK government.

"The Committee anticipates a bright future for Bombardier and its workforce, particularly given its new and exciting partnership with Airbus.”
