Greenpeace reaction to Oil and Gas UK outlook report

Responding to Oil and Gas UK's Business Outlook Report, Morten Thaysen, Oil Campaigner at Greenpeace UK said:

A £200 billion investment is certainly needed, but it’s not the one Oil and Gas UK have in mind. The current climate emergency means the tide has got to go in one direction and that’s away from fossil fuels and towards the low carbon industries of the future, like renewables and electric vehicles. Big investment is needed for these sectors  - allowing us to expand jobs in the likes of offshore wind, guarantee the UK’s leadership in the global market, and retrain oil workers so their vital skills can help us power the future.

As ever, though, the oil industry is keen we keep throwing good money after bad to prop up an outdated and declining technology. The problem is, with the climate emergency raging on, we don’t have that luxury.
